A beautiful and diverse city that has received numerous accolades and awards, including Tampa Riverwalk voted #2 in the 2022 USA Today’s best Riverwalk in America; 2021 Champabay (in reference to the Tampa Bay Lightning winning the Stanley Cup and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers winning the Super Bowl); 2021 Resonance Consultancy #22 best city in the United States and #1 city in Florida.
In 1513, the Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon made his first appearance in the Tampa Bay area. It wasn’t until 1824, after the first American settler arrived to Tampa, that Fort Brooke was built by the United States Army, to secure the Tampa Bay Harbor, and continued to develop during the Civil War. Development included the iconic Henry B. Plant structure, which was utilized as a railroad extension to connect to the Hillsborough River. Today, Henry B. Plant is utilized and known as the University of Tampa; and this development, along with many other historical infrastructures, were the beginning of what has become the City of Tampa we know and love today!
In 1886, the City of Ybor came to life and earned its name from Vincente Martinez Ybor, who established Tampa’s first cigar factory in the city. During the Spanish-American War, MacDill Air Force Base assisted U.S. troops aboard military vessels bound for Cuba.
Around the 1960s, the City of Tampa continued to prosper, with the growth of the Financial District in Downtown Tampa, nestled along the Hillsborough River.
Today, the City of Tampa is home to approximately 392,800 residents, making it the largest city in Hillsborough County, Florida and also the 3rd largest city in the state of Florida and 53rd largest city in the United States.
The City of Tampa is often referred to as the “Tampa Bay Area,” a metropolitan area consisting of Tampa (Hillsborough County), St. Petersburg and Clearwater (Pinellas County), holding a population over three-million residents.
The City of Tampa offers copious amounts of restaurants, bars, retail stores, various business and governmental services, health care, historical museums, art and culture venues, concert and sports venues and more!
