Welcome to Dunedin
Known for major league baseball, arts and culture, dining and one of our Nation’s number one beaches, the City of Dunedin is a quaint, relaxing city and a traveler’s dream destination!
Dunedin was originally founded in 1852 and named Jonesboro by George Jones, making it one of the oldest towns on the west coast of Florida. In 1885, a couple of Scottish merchants moved to Dunedin and requested for the government to open up a public post office, with the name of Dunedin, named after their hometown in Edinburgh.
The City is home to approximately 36,000 residents and visited by thousands of tourists, annually. The nation’s top-rated beach, Honeymoon Island, is located at the end of the well-known Dunedin Causeway.
In 2021, Dunedin won Best of the Bay Awards: Best Beach Town, Best Date Destination and Best Community. Dunedin offers entertainment and activities for all ages, including Scottish festivals, Holiday parades, street festivals, restaurants, breweries, boutiques, retail stores, parks, beaches, recreational facilities, MLB Spring Training Games (Toronto Blue Jays) and more!
